Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 8, 2026

Introduction

Openfolio is an open-source cryptocurrency portfolio tracking application. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and disclosed when you use the Openfolio mobile application ("App").

Openfolio is committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed with a privacy-first approach—we do not require account creation, and we minimize data collection to only what is necessary to provide the service.

Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following information is stored only on your device using local storage and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Portfolio Holdings: The cryptocurrencies you track and the quantities you enter manually
  • Watchlist: Tokens you choose to monitor

This locally stored data remains on your device and under your control. You can delete this data at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App.

Information Transmitted to Our Servers

When you use certain features of the App, the following information may be transmitted to our servers:

  • Wallet Addresses: If you choose to track wallet balances, the public blockchain addresses you provide are transmitted to and stored on our servers. These addresses are stored anonymously without any link to your identity or device.
  • Portfolio Data: When you view your portfolio, your token holdings are transmitted to our servers to retrieve current prices and market data. This data is used only to process your request and is not stored on our servers.
  • Token Queries: When you search for tokens, the search query is transmitted to our servers.

No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.

Information Collected Automatically

We may collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the App, including:

  • Anonymous Device Identifier: A randomly generated identifier that is not linked to your identity or any personal information
  • Basic Usage Statistics: Anonymous, aggregated data about App usage patterns

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, precise location, or any other personally identifiable information.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide cryptocurrency price data and market information
  • Retrieve and display wallet balances for addresses you choose to track
  • Improve the App's functionality and user experience
  • Monitor and analyze usage trends (in aggregate, anonymous form only)

Third-Party Services

The App interacts with the following categories of third-party services:

Cryptocurrency Data Providers

We use third-party APIs to obtain cryptocurrency price data, market statistics, and historical charts. These services receive only token identifiers—no personal information is shared.

Blockchain RPC Providers

To retrieve wallet balances, we query blockchain networks through RPC (Remote Procedure Call) providers. These providers receive the public wallet addresses you choose to track. Public wallet addresses are, by their nature, already publicly visible on their respective blockchains.

Future Services

We may integrate additional services in the future, such as:

  • Analytics services (using anonymous identifiers only)
  • Crash reporting services (to improve App stability)

This Privacy Policy will be updated to reflect any such additions.

Data Retention

  • Local Data: Data stored on your device is retained until you delete it or uninstall the App.
  • Wallet Addresses: Public wallet addresses transmitted to our servers for balance tracking are retained indefinitely to provide the service. These addresses are stored anonymously.
  • Analytics Data: Anonymous analytics data may be retained indefinitely in aggregate form.

Data Security

We implement reasonable technical measures to protect the information transmitted to our servers:

  • All network communications between the App and our servers use HTTPS encryption
  • Wallet addresses are stored without any link to personal identity
  • We do not store passwords, private keys, or sensitive authentication credentials

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices and Rights

Local Data

You have full control over data stored on your device. You can:

  • Delete individual holdings or watchlist items within the App
  • Clear all App data through your device's settings
  • Uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data

Wallet Address Data

Because wallet addresses are stored anonymously without any link to your identity or device, we cannot identify which addresses belong to you and therefore cannot delete specific addresses upon request. If you no longer wish for a wallet address to be tracked, simply remove it from the App.

Do Not Track

The App does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals because we do not track users across third-party websites or services.

International Users

The App is available worldwide, except in France, where the App is not offered due to local regulatory requirements.

Openfolio is an open-source project based in the United States and operated under U.S. law. By using the App, you acknowledge that any data transmitted to our servers is processed in the United States.

We do not collect personal data. Public blockchain addresses are inherently public information visible to anyone on their respective blockchains and are not linked to any individual identity in our systems.

If you are a California resident: we do not sell personal information and we do not collect personal information as defined under the CCPA.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Open Source

Openfolio is open-source software. The source code is publicly available for review, which provides transparency into exactly how the App handles data. You can review the code at github.com/openfolio.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

For significant changes that materially affect your rights or how your information is used, we will provide notice through the App or other appropriate means.
